Learning about digital photography allows you to learn new things, meet new people, and go new places. And the tools and opportunities to be a professional photographer have never been so affordable. Learning photography could become a new passion in your life and even led to a new career.

Where do you start? You have your camera, instruction manual and a few accessories. What do you do with it?

1. Know the details of your camera!

Key to any learning process is to get to know the tools of your trade. Find out everything you can and how the camera functions, its settings and how to actually take an image with it. This is essential to progressing along your photographic journey.

2. Do more practices!

Human nature is not predisposed to practice or exercise. Anything that becomes hard work we seem to shy away from. If you want to get good at what you are doing then practice is essential.

3. Learn the principles!

By learning just a selection of the basic principles of photography you will improve your photography a hundredfold. Simple things like the rule of thirds, light color and composition, aperture, shutter speed and ISO will leapfrog you ahead of you peers. You don’t need to focus on megapixels and memory cards. They don’t help your photography. Get a book, subscribe to a photo newsletter, join a club or enroll in a photography course. Do something constructive about learning photography.

4. Master photography techniques!

There are several basic techniques that are keys to great photos, like mastering depth of field, learning to pan moving subjects and how to focus sharply. Nothing too difficult but, if you master these they will add dimensions to your images that will raise them head and shoulders above the competition.

5. Review your work!

Firstly, look at the images you have taken over a period of time and reflect on whether they include the principles of photography. Have you mastered the various techniques and have you gained a competency in using the settings and controls of your particular camera? Simple questions but vital if you are to move on to the next level in your photography. Secondly, you need to have your images reviewed by others. If you’re part of a photography club then you don’t have a problem. Other ways are to join photographic forums and submit your images to galleries for review by other forum members. Key to this point is finding ways to get feedback, positive and negative, on your images so that you can work at improving them. Review starts the cycle again because you will need to go back relearn the things you need to come to grips with.

To learn digital photography may appear to be a simple process, but if you aren’t committed to the journey then you won’t grow while on your photographic journey. Put these keys into practice and you will become a competent photographer. Happy shooting!

Most photographers, even beginners, are aware of the before shots. However, many photographers neglect to create their own “brand” of creativity or poses. One important and traditional shot before a wedding would be the bride and her party getting ready. Pictures of the bride getting ready are absolute classics.

Any good photographer can create the standard photographs of the wedding but how do you put your personal “twist” on things? Could the mother in law perhaps be trying to “strangle” the bride? I know that’s a little far-fetched but many clients who have a great sense of humor would love this type of staged comedy.

You’ll want shots of the bride getting advice from her beloved family including her mother, grandmother, aunts and girlfriends as well as applying cosmetics and fixing hair, putting on the dress, garter, and jewelry. If the bride is religious you could even have her reading silently from the bible, perhaps a prayer from Psalms. This is also a great pose for the groom before the wedding vs. afterward with the idea in mind that they are individually praying for a blessing on their wedding.

What you’ll be allowed to shoot greatly depends on the preferences and ultimate decision of the bride and groom.

You can apply the same “getting ready” shots of the groom and his party of merry men getting ready for the big event. Sometimes it’s not possible to get both so whatever you do, don’t forget the bride! If the bride and groom are getting ready at different locations it won’t be possible to shoot both at the same time. It might be a good idea to remind the bride and groom beforehand so that they can make arrangements for one of the groomsmen to take some cool shots of their getting ready scene.

Remember that tradition maintains you should get more shots of the bride than anyone else including the groom.

You can easily get shots of the men together just before the actual ceremony which constitutes “before shots”. And, it’s such fun taking the man shots being manly. One never knows what type of pose or action you’ll catch in film while the men are hanging out before the wedding.

Have you ever thought about turning your hobby into an income stream?

Have you thought about the kudos you would get from being published and selling your work?

Well it is not as difficult as it seems in fact, it just takes 4 little steps to achieve this goal!

I know that a lot of people have tried to get published and failed due to it being a very competitive market which is sometimes ‘closed’ to the newcomer.

In fact it is hard to know where to start, but there are a huge number of customers looking for fresh, new and original images; all of the following for instance and many more:

* Web Designers
* Banks
* Insurance companies
* Magazine Editors
* eBay Sellers
* Scrapbookers
* Lawyers
* Realtors
* Illustrators
* Online Vendors
* Marketers
* Travel agents
* Graphic Artists
* Merchants
* Writers
* Advertisers
* Retailers

The problem is, how do you get to them? You don’t want to spend all your time emailing and phoning them, that is, if you had contact details to start with and you don’t want to spend hours uploading images; you just want a place where you can put your selected work for somebody to view and buy.

And that generally is where the trail runs cold; you hit the wall!

But with the introduction of the internet there are a host of places where you can publish your images and sell them.

Think of the extra money that could be made, not to mention the sheer enjoyment of taking photographs for something more than pleasure.

So as I said, it takes 4 little steps:

1. Take a picture
2. Upload it to a website
3. A customer purchases it
4. You get paid
Sounds simple? It is!

Photography budgets often tend to go overboard because of the surplus costs involved. The budget needs to be set right quickly unless things go haywire and one starts repenting his decision of taking up all the trouble in the first place. Since lenses are usually considered the most expensive part of all, it is appropriate that one rents them instead of going all out to purchase them. By paying affordable wide angle lens rental, the professional ensures that the net cost involved goes down considerably and that it can be used somewhere else for better purpose. Lenses like the Nikon Wide Angle Lens are very prestigious and apparently are sold at n astronomical price. The rent on which they can be leased is comparatively a fraction of their cost and by doing so the individual saves a lot of money.

Budgets involved in photography need to be handled very precariously. Even the most minuscule part might cost a fortune to purchase and hence, all options need to be considered prudently. It is times like these when one is compelled to think out of the box and the first strike that any smart individual would make is to avert purchasing the lenses and rather renting them. This is where one can make things easier by paying affordable photography lens rental and wide angle lens rental only to use those lenses and return them back when the usage is over.

Renting lenses and paying nominal lens rental seems to be the most frugal option available to photographers across the world looking forward to cutting down the photography budget to a great extent. Since the lenses are so delicate that they might get sabotaged if just kept around which would make the money spent on purchasing them futile, it is best to rent them from service providers and return them back. Since the costs involved in purchasing them are taken out of budget, it becomes easy to incorporate other important expenses in place of this. One simply gets the liberty to focus on other things.

Lens rentals have been made very affordable giving photographers and other professionals in the same line of work the space to cut down on the budget which otherwise would have never been possible in the first place. The photography lens rental can considerably be brought down by hiring lenses on returnable basis as their usage is not indefinite and them not being purchased creates space for something else to be accommodated. The rentals are mostly available on all sorts of lenses and can be hired from any good service provider like Thelenspro.com. Since the lenses come at an affordable lens rental, it is also possible that the individual can hire multiple lenses at the same time. This way, the budget will never ever go overboard and will only come down apart from creating room for more features to be incorporated where the spare money can be used on other things.

Having used the Nikon D90 for a while now, it becomes obvious that this camera was designed by actual photographers, not just a design team.

The user interface, the ability to make your own menu of most used settings (takes a while but well worth the effort) the way it feels solid yet light, how comfortable it is in your hands and the easy access buttons all add up to a brilliant consumer grade dslr camera.

Here are some of the features that I think are the real pros of the Nikon D90 DSLR:

Well positioned buttons and chosen buttons within easy reach to control such things as ISO, white balance, auto focus, shooting mode etc… A high resolution 920 pixel screen that is incredibly clear and brilliant, you can see exactly what your shooting in various lighting conditions. The navigation is very well conceived. You can access all the important settings in just a few clicks.

You can continuous shoot with this camera at a very fast 4.5 frames per second. There is only a minute 65ms shooting lag from the time you press the shutter button. Action and quick decisive shots are no problem.

This is the first mid priced DSLR camera to offer a movie option. This allows you to shoot movies in motion JPEG at really high quality levels.

The battery use is very efficient; you can get up to 850 shots on a single charge, ending the frustration of picking up your camera to get a great shot only to find the battery is dead when you though you’d just charged it. It has a live view function that delivers a bright, crisp image to the beautiful 3″ LCD screen which allows easy shooting without having to look through the viewfinder.

The most noticeable thing about this camera overall is the fact that it is so easy to use. Everything works intuitively and unlike previous models you can operate this camera with one hand. If you’re planning on shooting any video with this camera here are some quality impressions:

320X216 doesn’t look good. Jaggy and not right looking

640X424 looks okay; the problem is that it is the wrong aspect ratio. It should be 640X480 so looks funky while watching it.

1280X720 HD but looks kind of soft and smoothed over.

Like most others I don’t use the video though. All in all a very well designed camera and a great value especially in this price range. In fact I like to think it’s the best camera period in this price range.
